Date: 2004-04-26 11:11 am (UTC)Weight propaganda is just as misleading as political propaganda. Of course our view is skewed because we are HUGE compared to most other cultures, and not just weight-wise. We are the new-age northmen, made giants by our diet. Japanese teenagers that came from Americanized parents tower two feet over everyone else in the village out there. It is a weird sight. I have even seen progressive Indians that look like linebackers because they grew up with AC/DC and Coca-Cola.
And if a guy met weight standards? If I was 165 pounds? I would be a scrawny wimp. (Ok ok, MORE so than now though)
I still say the hormones in milk/beef/chicken are part of a early 20th century master plan to make us the new Northmen, to make us agressive and intimidating. The corn-fed farmboy is the epitome of this desired image. Chris Farley is a bit too far though... so now we get tax breaks to go to the gym. So we get huge by eating too much, and then we get to double-stimulate the economy by paying for gym memberships. So we get lean, mean, dollar-spending machines!
And for the record, when I was working out and got buffed up, I had this aura about me that I could rip the arms off anyone who pissed me off. And I was walking around looking for people who might piss me off. I don;t think that was very healthy either.
My biggest motivator has been watching SCA folks deteriorate and die though... I don't want to go there. ;-)
